The Princess, the Waitress, and the Fairy Godfather (Tomoyo/Sakura)
Title: The Princess, the Waitress, and the Fairy Godfather
Length: 413 words
Fandom: Cardcaptor Sakura
Pairing/characters: slight Tomoyo/Sakura; mostly Tomoyo and Clow gen
Rating: G

Excerpt: He turns her broom into a cat and she maces him, and for good measure, the hay-colored cat.
He tells her he's her fairy godfather and she doesn't pause in sweeping the floor.
"Not buying it," she says, back aching, head hurting. She doesn't need this right now. Crazies like him, they complicated things. She hated having to use the pepper spray.

"You have to go to the ball," Clow says. He's told her his name and his mission (again) from in front of the counter, where the customers belonged. She couldn't finish sweeping, so she's kicked the cat out and is polishing glasses instead.
"Don't want to," she says calmly, stacking cups and watching him in the mirror.
"All girls want to go to the ball," he says, not believing her at all, but Tomoyo grins.
"Make me," she says.
"Princess Sakura needs you," he coaxes.
"The handmaiden doesn't get the girl," she retorts. "Are you going to order something or not?"

She hums as she cooks. Cooking isn't her favorite thing, but it's better than most of the restaurant chores she does. It's easy.
She sets the plate in front of him and he stares for a moment as though he doesn't quite remember how to eat. She sits down on a stool behind the counter and rubs at her ankles, wincing. There's no one else here; they've all gone to the ball.
"Glass slippers would be wasted on me," she says.
"Quite right," he answers crisply, as if this is the opening he is waiting for. "You, my dear, know how to make your own happily-ever-after."
She frowns, uncertain. "Why do you want me, then?"
The cat has sneaked back into the room and it winds itself around Clow's ankles until he picks it up and pets it absently. There shouldn't be a cat in here and she stares at it.
"Princesses can't, though," he says. "They need a prince."
Tomoyo lifts an eyebrow.
"And the prince is determined, but utterly clueless," he admits, mumbling something else about "my side of the family."
Her eyes sparkle then. She glances around the restaurant speculatively for a moment before responding. "Is she beautiful?"
"Lovely as the day is long," he replied, beaming. "Now, we'll just..."
"Take your car," she says cheerfully, pulling her coat off the hook and retrieving the restaurant key from atop a high cabinet.
"Huh?"
"Fairy godfather, I need a coach," she says.
"Right," Clow says, chastened, and he follows her to the adventure.
