Right Before (Tomoyo/Sakura)

Title: Right Before
Length: 352 words
Prompt: Tomoyo/Sakura
Pairing: Tomoyo/Sakura; Syaoran/Sakura

Excerpt: Lately Sakura has been full of sighs and longing, and Tomoyo knows that something is going wrong, and that she can't help, and maybe that's why she decides to tell Sakura she is a lesbian-- to distract her.

It was sometime between the 49th and the 65th time that Sakura asked Tomoyo, yet again, why she couldn't find a boyfriend, that Tomoyo had decided to tell her. Lately Sakura has been full of sighs and longing, and Tomoyo knows that something is going wrong, and that she can't help, and maybe that's why she decides to tell Sakura she is a lesbian-- to distract her. She cannot hope for anything except Sakura's happiness. She does not think about the way Sakura will react to such a revelation as her sexuality; she only hopes to take her mind off of boys and amber-colored eyes and promises unfulfilled.

"Then Syaoran and I could go on double dates with you," Sakura said thoughtfully, the 66th time she has referred to Tomoyo's single status since she began dating Syaoran on the second day of eighth grade. There is no one around; they are eating lunch alone as Syaoran had some unspecified errand to complete. The timing could be worse, so Tomoyo takes a deep breath.

"Sakura-chan," she says, "I don't want to have a boyfriend. Ever."

Sakura's eyes are almost wounded as she studies Tomoyo. "Why not?" she asks incredulously. Tomoyo sighs inwardly, but she knew it wouldn't be this easy.

"I like girls," she says. "One girl in particular, in fact. I am a lesbian, Sakura-chan."

Sakura's expression is one of perfect wonderment, but she shuts her eyes when Tomoyo leans forward and kisses her, a brush of lips that is more of an idea than a promise. Tomoyo's lips are soft, not firm, and sweet, not salty, and Sakura doesn't understand why she has begun to cry until Tomoyo leans forward and kisses her tears away, her tongue the barest pressure on Sakura's cheek.

"Oh," Sakura sighs. "Oh," she says in understanding, stealing Tomoyo's lips for her own, and when Tomoyo jerks back, surprised by the reciprocity, Sakura smiles through the still-flowing tears.

"I didn't know I was allowed to love you," she whispers, leaning forward and smelling Tomoyo's neck, a scent both familiar and entirely new.

"I never knew how to stop," Tomoyo replies, and they both start breathing.
