Pairing: Kero gen
Other: Humorous.
Excerpt: He sighed deeply. It was one thing for Sakura to improve her magic through making new Sakura Cards. It was another thing entirely for her to test them on him. And the High School Alternate Universes Card? The worst thing of it all.

You're an unusual one, the Hat thought at him, for the moment nonplussed.

Tell me about it, Kero thought back. The hat had slid over his head with ease-- actually his entire body, since he "wasn't allowed to do magic in the corridors," as the batty Scottish woman had informed him. He didn't really think that transforming counted, but she had a wand, and he didn't. How the heck would he be able to hold one if he had?

Well, you're certainly not a Slytherin, the Hat said, recovering a bit of confidence. Ambitious, yes, but only for the sake of your mistress. And not a Ravenclaw-- not really a learner, are you?

Kero would have protested, but the Hat was still thinking at him and he couldn't get a thought in edgewise. He sighed deeply. It was one thing for Sakura to improve her magic through making new Sakura Cards. It was another thing entirely for her to test them on him. And the High School Alternate Universes Card? The worst thing of it all. He was going to suggest a Pudding Card when he got back. In fact, he was going to insist on it.

Hufflepuff or Gryffindor, the Hat thought at him... thoughtfully. Kero blinked. Before the Hat had settled over his head, he'd seen the Hufflepuff table, a sea of yellow-scarved girls who looked as though they were cuddlers. He shuddered.

Gryffindor? he thought hopefully. How hard was this, really? He was after all, a large winged lion... The Hat considered, and then shouted it to the crowd. Relieved, Kero scampered free and flew towards the table; specifically, towards a scruffy-haired boy that almost resembled the brat. The girls had been talking about him on the train enough that Kero could recognize him. He'd saved the world or something. The important thing was, he was Muggleborn. He could help Kero out.

He alighted gently on the boy's shoulder and watched his eyes widen. Then he said in careful English, "How likely is it that I can find a phone in here? I need to call Japan. Collect."

Harry Potter stared.
