Many Stops (Luke/Flora; Flora/Legal; Legal/Layton)
Title: Many Stops
Length: 515 words
Prompt: Professor Layton (Anon) Fan Meme: Write a fic of Luke chasing Flora chasing Legal chasing Layton, please.
Pairing: Luke/Flora; Flora/Legal; Legal/Layton
Other: n/a
Excerpt: He picked her flowers on the way home from school and tucked them into her hair, wishing he was taller.
He loved her; it was simple as that, puppy-dog child's love. It was heavy and intense and overwhelming. He picked her flowers on the way home from school and tucked them into her hair, wishing he was taller.
There was something pure and perfect in it, in the way he stared at her as she crossed the kitchen, her little feet dancing and her voice soft in his ears. He didn't know what she was saying but he listened.
Luke didn't try to tell Flora how he felt. He felt like she should already know, like it was something huge that had to show on the outside of him, like a helium balloon he was carrying around, one that said, "I LOVE FLORA" and bounced in strangers' faces.
He chased after her and knew he'd never catch her, but that was part of young love, anyway-- he chased all the same.

She didn't know what was so different about Luke-- the older version. She knew in her mind that he was just the same as the little boy who followed the professor now, but he had grown into someone so different they might as well not share the same name.
Older Luke was confident when little Luke was hesitant. He was outrageous when little Luke was only hyper. He was sharp as a tack when little Luke was still somewhat naive.
There was something in the set of his shoulders and the sharpness of his face that made Flora's breath catch in her throat. She burned dinner and fumbled conversation, feeling so inadequate next to his suave persona.
Sometimes she looked at little Luke speculatively as he scurried around with the professor, but she couldn't see him in him.
She wondered when he'd change, and if she'd notice, and she'd love him too. Or love him again. Time travel complicated things.
*
Surely he hadn't been such an utter sap. The thought disgusted Luke. This little chirping boy with too much energy wasn't him, had never been him. He hated the thought. And Flora... had Flora always been so vapid? She scarcely seemed to know how to talk.
But the professor was the same. He'd always been larger than life to Luke, young or old. He knew everything, he could solve any puzzle, he had all of the solutions. He had large gentle hands and a smile that Luke sort of wanted to kiss. He wondered how the professor would react if he leaned up one day and did, in the high solving a great puzzle would give them. Would the professor push him away?
He dreamed that he wouldn't push him away, and he knew he would. It wasn't done back in the professor's time, and it still wasn't done now. Luke might be ten years older, but the world hadn't gone on that much more.
The professor was as amazing as he remembered, but this time Luke was determined to take advantage of the fact. He was only waiting for the right opportunity.
