Go West, Young Man (Pavel gen)

Title: Go West, Young Man
Length: 291 words
Prompt: Professor Layton (Anon) Fan Meme: I WANT SOME PAVEL FIC. Yes. Pavel. The explorer guy.
Pairing: Pavel gen
Other: n/a
Excerpt: He was always lost, but to Pavel, lost was just the beginning of another adventure.

He was always lost, but to Pavel, lost was just the beginning of another adventure. He had his phrasebooks, he had matches, and he had, if he needed it, a small pick-ax, for those hard-to-escape places.

"Wo ist die Toilette, bitte?" he asked hopefully. The maintenance man just grunted. "Pardon, ou sont les toilettes?" he tried.

"It's a sewer," the man said, lifting his eyebrows. That was English, Pavel thought. He was close to home.

Wherever home was. Somewhere... west, he thought. He'd been wandering for a long time. He took his bed where he could find it, whether that was twenty feet underground (in the present case) or in a convenient inn. He didn't mind camping. He had his pick-ax, and matches. That was all a good explorer needed.

It was really a nice sewer, if he thought about it. Maybe he could put this place on the map! Pavel Town, they would call it.

Yeah, as soon as he figured out where he was, he could mark it down on his map. Determined, Pavel strode down the squishy avenue, searching for signs of light and outdoor air. Maybe if he was lucky he would find the place he'd come in. Wasn't it... west of here?

If only he hadn't lost his compass. Then again, the needle had been painted on. It was so easy to get tricked in these foreign marketplaces.

"Grazie!" he called back over his shoulder at the man, and saw him shrug before he turned the corner.

The future was bright. And at the moment, somewhat cave-like. But as long as he could explore, there would be places to find.

That was all Pavel wanted.
