Title: Slipping
Fandom: Cardcaptor Sakura
Characters: Hiiragizawa Eriol and Daidouji Tomoyo (not romantic)
Theme: 98. halo slipping
Leitmotif: feather
Warnings/Ratings: none
Synopsis: Eriol surprises Tomoyo in her secret observations of Sakura. She is not amused.
"Your halo is slipping, Daidouji-san," Eriol said quietly in her ear, making her jump. He steadied her so she wouldn't fall out of the tree, and his confident hands on her hips made her angry.
"Excuse me?" she said coolly.
"I've never seen you climb a tree before," he said, ignoring her question. "If you are going to do that often, I suggest tranferring clandestinely to a all boy's school so you can wear pants and have tree-climbing adventures."
Tomoyo had a moment of sudden rage when she wanted to push Eriol out of the tree. (Her halo was indeed slipping, he would have said in a falsely concerned tone, had he been able to read her thoughts, but thankfully he couldn't.)
"Could I ask your business in this tree, Hiiragizawa-kun?" she said instead of pushing him.
"Seeing what your business is," he said, "though I suppose I could leave you to it, if you'd like."
"Being sneaky isn't very nice, Hiiragizawa-kun," Tomoyo said.
"I suppose not," he said with a smile. "But I had to make sure that you didn't need rescue from your perch. Not that a songbird would have trouble getting out of a tree." He reached up onto the next branch and plucked a feather from an abandoned nest. He tried to hand it to her, but she swatted it away and she watched it float down to the ground.
"Your horns are slipping," she told him sardonically, and he laughed and left her to her observations. Who cared anyway if she wanted to climb trees and gaze at Sakura? Hadn't Syaoran done it? She didn't dare to interrupt their adorable (yet sad, wasn't it?) private lunch, though she thought it her sworn duty to observe them and make sure that Syaoran didn't try anything (a fact that would be quickly reported to Touya, knowing the chaos that would ensue).
When lunch period was over, Tomoyo got down from the tree only with a great deal of difficulty. In fact, she put a large rip in her school skirt that she had to mend in Home Ec class. Sakura was of course curious.
"Are you all right, Tomoyo-chan? How did you rip your skirt so badly?"
Tomoyo lied skillfully, of course, but she caught Eriol's wink.
"Halo," he mouthed at her.
Primly she reached up and adjusted an invisible golden ring resting in the air about three inches above her head. This time, they both smiled.
