Fall Again (Meiling/Eriol, Meiling/Syaoran)
Title: Fall Again
Author: rhap_chan
Pairing: Li Meiling/Li Syaoran, Li Meiling/Hiiragizawa Eriol
Fandom: Cardcaptor Sakura
Theme: 09. getting up only to fall again
Disclaimer: Cardcaptor Sakura belongs to CLAMP.
Summary: Meiling fell into another's arms, but he will reject her too. First Syaoran, now Eriol.... Getting up only to fall again.
There were four rings of light on the ceiling overhead. My eyes flew open with a gasp as he penetrated my body, and I saw them. I didn't know where they had come from or why they would be what I noticed first instead of this man pressing his flesh into mine, but they were.
I only watched them for a moment, and then shut my eyes against the pain. I had always said I would only give my body to one man, Syaoran, the man I wanted to marry.
You lose something when you fall.
I let him have me with gasps and little lightning bolts of pain and his lips teasing my breast. He was good at what he did, even drunk. He wouldn't have come home with me otherwise, but there was something that upset him about Syaoran and Sakura's wedding almost as much as it upset me, and it had made the wine flow easily and his senses unclear enough to choose me.
I knew him by reputation only. Syaoran had told me many things about this man, whispering darkly about his former incarnation and the power he still possessed, the fact that he had been twelve years old for decades and could surely be for decades more. Syaoran never mentioned the way this man looked at Sakura, with wistful hunger in his eyes, but perhaps my cousin never noticed. I watched his eyes meet Sakura's after the ceremony and the sharp way they exchanged glances. I had little more to do than watch. I was just here as a representative of the family, and as a friend.
Whatever his feelings toward Sakura, whatever my reasoning for choosing a man already attached to another woman, here he was in my bed, stroking my hair. I wondered if I could fall again, and if he would hurt me too.
"Meiling," he breathed, and I wasn't used to a man except Syaoran calling me by first name, but I supposed our intimacy would allow the dropping of honorifics.
"Eriol," I said, trying out his name. It was difficult to say, an English word in Japanese spoken by a girl from China. I think I liked it though.
Perhaps we could work past this terrible day in May when our hopes and dreams smiled at each other and left us in the cold.
Perhaps not.
When I woke in the morning my hotel bed was empty and there was a slip of paper on the nightstand that said, "I'm sorry," in shaky English. (I had to get the hotel concierge to translate it. I must have looked like a madwoman in a bathrobe and messy black hair, but I didn't think about it before I left the room.)
So I went back to bed and pulled the covers over my head for a few more hours before I had to get ready for my flight home. I supposed that this was how I always lived my life, anyway: getting up, just to fall again.
