She's always been a princess; learning how to be a human princess is the difficult part. And not even learning to be human, but learning to be his, how to be swept up in strong arms and smell the sea in his hair and touch him in the night.
Her legs are wobbly at the ceremony, but that's because of nerves more than anything. She watches them crown the man she thought once she might never get to meet. She remembers stroking his stone face and hoping. She remembers her tail and Flounder and her father and her life before, and she wonders why she feels like an utterly new person here, as they place the circlet on her head as well. She has been human for a year now.
Now she is Princess Ariel (again), and she is in love. Maybe it is the love that makes her new.
