At the Planet, Bette and Tina were discussed in whispers, like one of them had died. Shane had spent a patient half-hour explaining the whole thing to Carmen and Carmen was cheerfully passing the story along to anyone who would listen, one eye watching for Kit, who would likely be unamused by the gossip.

Shane rested her head on the bar, her thoughts heavy. She'd known Bette and Tina as a couple for a long time. They weren't a combined entity in her head, but it was close. It was odd to think Tina would be around anymore with Bette's hand on her waist.

Carmen came back and kissed Shane on the cheek. Shane smiled until she went away. She was starting to feel a little less optimistic about this whole girlfriend thing.

It seemed even more complicated than she had first thought. Shane sighed and ordered a drink. She didn't really enjoy it.
