Excerpt: "It may be Kuro-rin that Mokona sits with in the day, but Mokona likes Fai at night," it said to him one night as they were preparing supper.

"It may be Kuro-rin that Mokona sits with in the day, but Mokona likes Fai at night," it said to him one night as they were preparing supper. He looked at it for a long moment before he started chopping vegetables again.

"What do you mean by that, Mokona?" he asked, a small smile playing about his lips like always.

Mokona snuggled his arms. "I like you!" it said in a big, dramatic voice. Fai leaned over to pet it and then put the vegetable knife down on the counter, sinking into a chair and gesturing for Mokona to join him at the kitchen table. It clambered up on his shoulder, its fur warm against his neck.

"Mokona," he began lightly, "did you know that Sakura-hime used to have a crush on her High Priest Yukito-san?"

Mokona's eyes went wide. "But Sakura told Mokona that Yukito-priest was her brother's special person. Why did she have a crush on him?"

"The heart is a funny thing, Mokona. But you know that. You told me that Yuuko-san had a precious person too, right?"

"Yes," Mokona said, smiling in remembrance. "And they drank and fought and taught Mokona the 108 Secret Techniques."

"So even though they fought all the time, they loved each other?" Fai asked, staring off into space thoughtfully in an attempt to imagine that home.

"The heart is a funny thing?" Mokona said slowly. "But they loved each other most, so it didn't matter to our Yuuko and Clow."

"Right," Fai said, playfully poking Mokona's nose. "I don't think I'm your special person, Mokona. Don't you already have someone who loves you most?"

"Mokona loves Mokona," it said in sudden wonder of its corresponding brother.

"Right," Fai agreed. "That's too special for me to mess with. Now let's finish dinner, shall we?"

He rose from the chair at the same moment that Kurogane burst into the little house. He scowled like usual and Syaoran followed him, breathing hard. A last training session before dinner, evidently.

"Don't you have dinner done yet?" Kurogane asked grumpily. Mokona squealed and jumped over to greet him. Fai smiled. It appeared none the worse for wear.

"Good food takes time, Kuro-pon!" he yelled cheerfully over Kurogane's gruff attempts to fend off Mokona's affections. "I bet Daddy's hungry!"

Kurogane grumbled and Fai just grinned as he turned back to his preparations.
