We couldn't do this here. We couldn't do this anywhere. But he took my hand and I wondered, and he kissed it, and I knew, and there was nothing else to do.

"So why don't we go somewhere only we know," he said and grinned, and before I could answer there we were, decades in the past, living in borrowed time.

I was drowning in his eyes there on the lawn beneath the cherry blossom tree. It was in full bloom, a gorgeous sight, but it was nothing to me right now.

What was I doing? What was going on? I felt drunk on his essence, his magic brushing against mine in a way that was incredibly intimate, a way that made me gasp with desire.

A dream flitted through my head of a boy whose amber eyes would soon be disappointed, and though I didn't want to hurt him there was nothing to be done, was there, Eriol?

We watched Clow and his guardians play, and Eriol seemed pleased and comfortable to be here in his past life.

"Idyllic, isn't it?" he said, and when I nodded he grasped my hand again. I wasn't sure that he meant what I thought that he had meant, but I didn't pull away. His pale fingers held mine like a promise. I wondered how cold it was in England.

After a while when Kero and Yue were preoccupied by other things, Clow came over by us and leaned against the tree.

"I didn't See this," he said after a while, smiling down at us, but he didn't seem to mind. There was a trace of longing in his eyes for human companionship. Had he ever had a girlfriend? I made a mental note to ask Eriol later.

"It's not easy to be good at Seeing love," Eriol said in his Clow voice, and the two really did match perfectly. It gave me a bit of a start. I looked from the twelve-year-old to the who-knew-how-old man and couldn't comprehend it. Between them, these men had given me everything I ever wanted and needed-- my father, my Cards, courage--

And now there was love inching in to take a place on the list, because somehow I was falling for Eriol. Clow hadn't Seen it. Sometimes I wondered if Eriol himself had. I hoped never to activate that power for myself.

Eriol's lips brushed my cheek and a flush spread across my cheeks. That was it, I was his, for better or worse... How could we do this? How could it work?

"Best of luck," Clow said to us. I wondered how often he got visitors from the future; he had taken it remarkably well that his heir and his reincarnation had thrown years of visions awry.

"Thanks," I said, blushing again, and Eriol's hand tightened around mine.

He wrapped his arms around my waist and held me, and Clow and he and I watched the sun set. I felt a portion of my life change with the dark, and Eriol's hands, but there would be another day.

He took me home and walked me to my door, and his lips brushed mine. I inhaled and on him I smelled the scent of our day, the crisp smell of cherry blossoms and the grass and sweat. We parted with a few words.

"Only we know that place," he whispered in my ear. "It is ours alone to be whoever we want to be."

Maybe tomorrow I would take him flying, since he has taught me how to fall.
