Excerpt: It didn't matter how short he was or that he practiced magic. There was something very special about him.
Kaho saw the way that Sakura looked at Eriol, with some uncertainty, and she smiled a little inside. The girl would accept but probably never understand the necessity of Eriol's actions of the past year.
Sakura smiled, nonetheless, even if she was uncertain, but Kaho was glad to appear and reassure her. She'd always been good at reassuring the girl. It was the magic in her blood.
Eriol had been a charmer. He had put Sakura at ease as well, but now he was stretching just a little to get a smile. The diabolical, once unmasked, can never again pretend to be angelic.
"Mizuki-sensei!" Sakura said with a gasp, but Kaho could see her relax just a little. Syaoran may be staring at her with open suspicion, but Sakura had never been able to get past the infatuation she had when her magic reached out to Kaho's.
Eriol pulled out her chair-- such a gentleman, the Devil is, she thought comfortably-- and Kaho noticed Tomoyo's eyes on them for just a second. The girl smiled a little bit. Kaho smiled herself. A woman in love glows, she knew. Only Tomoyo had caught it, thus far, but she was very perceptive for her age.
Later, when they were all gone, and Eriol's careful instructions to Sakura (he would never stop seeing her as his own daughter, Kaho thought) given, she stood by him and they watched Nakuru and Spinel at their antics.
"I'm quite fond of them," he said. There was a lot of emotion in those five words, a fatherly sort of love, and a sweet dependence on the two that completed him. He had created them first of anything, when he was reborn into this life, and they had kept him strong during this period of trial.
He looked up at her with kindness in his eyes and she couldn't help but blush just a little. There was something very special about him, and with all of the successful confessions (for Syaoran's would be successful, she knew, whether Clow predicted it or not), she was tempted to tell him how she felt. It didn't matter how short he was or that he practiced magic. There was something very special about him.
Her lips parted, and she bent down to his eye level, and her heart began to pound like she was still a child herself. But she was going to ask him.
Eriol, are you fond of me as well?
